Coconut Milk

Hello 🙂

It has been awhile since I waned to try to make myself milk from coconut or oats, but always left if for later or wasn’t sure it will happened with my blender as it is not strong.

And this Christmas season I had more time so finally decided to experiment. To my surprise, I had a very delicious homemade coconut milk so I tried it a few times. I even tried a few other nut milks for which I will write later. As well I find out you can make plant milk from literally every nut and seed hahah.

So this is how I make my coconut milk 🙂

  • Desiccated coconut
  • 700ml/1l water
  • Vanilla drops
  • Medjool date or 5- 10 raisins
  • Pinch salt
  1. Leave the coconut in water the night before for softening and better results.
  2. Prepare a cheese cloth and a bowl where you will pour the blended mixture.
  3. Pour the coconut mixture in a blender and add a little more water to make either 700 ml max 1 l.
  4. Add the vanilla and date/raisins.
  5. Blend for a few minutes.
  6. Pour the blended mixture into a cheese cloth or a straining mesh.
  7. Squeeze as much of the liquid as you can.
  8. And voala you have coconut milk.
  9. Pour it in a bottle and you can keep it for 3 to 4 days.
  10. Use it for coffee or overnight oats 🙂
  11. For my surprise a by-product is coconut oil 🙂 After blending you will have this either on the walls or the lead of the blender, so you can scoop it out in a small container and use it for cooking later.

! If you want you can add additional 200 ml water to the coconut paste(the leftover after you strained it) and blended it again. I dont do it as with 700 ml to 1 l we have more creamy coconut milk.

I really like it and was surprised it turned out so gut. I was so expired to make my own nut milk that I tried with walnuts and hazelnuts too 🙂 The only downside of the homemade milk is that it spoils quicker than store bought.

And dont through away the leftover coconut shred, but use it to make some coconut biscuits.
